Unsettled

Red Rock Coulee in southern Alberta is a place for Wonder.

This particular exposure, and variations of it, keep drawing me back. Despite the massive boulder anchoring the photograph, the shattered remnant of another rock on the slope below implies that the permanence is temporary. The sweep of clouds and sky almost seem to emanate from the boulder itself, yet they are in fact driven by a brisk westerly wind, tearing over the plains from the mountains. Then there is the gritty feel of this photo, which offends the photographer’s finer sensibilities, yet it still seems to suit the scene.

"Red Rock Coulee, Alberta"

Red Rock Coulee in southern Alberta is a place for Wonder.

It draws me in, but leaves me unsettled.
